The Opal Foundation & Africa
The Foundation began supporting African projects in Ethiopia, in 2008. The first projects took place with “Building Hope” and provided a better teaching environment at Karagutu School, Dessie. This was followed by provision of housing for destitute ex-leprosy sufferers and their children again in Dessie.
Since 2009, the Foundation has been working with AMREF. 2009/10 saw the provision of safe water for 10,000 people, mainly from a semi nomadic pastoralist society, in South Omo Ethiopia. The new project for 2010/11 is to raise £30,000 to continue the safe water and sanitation theme, but this time in the Kechene slum, located in Addis Ababa.
