The Opal Choir Project: The Magic of Music - Information
After months of rehearsals and performances, the Choirs appeared in a spectacular singing competition at the Royal Albert Hall, on Wednesday the 16th April 2008.
The evening was an extravaganza of music from all different genres, with the excitement building to the announcement of the two best performing choirs, who received fully funded trips to the World Choir Games in Austria in July 2008, where they will compete on an international stage.
The Venue
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for many of the children involved, the location was of fundamental importance - and what better location than the Royal Albert Hall.
This stunning building provides a magnificient backdrop to what gave our event the prestige that all the efforts the choirs have put in deserved.
The Presenter
In order to ensure this evening would leave a lasting impression, it was important that our host for the evening represented the ideals of the Opal Foundation, and were delighted to announce that Diane Louise Jordan would be our presenter at The Royal Albert Hall.
Currently Diane is a regular face on Songs of Praise (one of the BBC’s longest running programmes). The first six years of Diane’s television career were very enjoyably spent presenting the BBC’s flagship Children’s programme, Blue Peter.
She devotes many tireless hours to her charities, all of which reflect issues close to her heart. Diane’s underlying passion to encourage, motivate and inspire all people to “be the best they can be” means she seizes every opportunity to engage with all, young and old alike. So unsurprisingly Diane was thrilled about being involved with the Opal Choir Project and is very much looked forward to meeting everyone at the Royal Albert Hall.
Special Guest Stars
We were proud to announce that the award winning Tenors Un Limited would also be performing. They have performed alongside such notables as Sting, Lionel Richie and soul diva Beyoncé.
They have already enthralled sold out audiences at The Royal Albert Hall and have entertained celebrities, statesmen, royality and sports figures including Eric Clapton, former Prime Minister John Major, the Lord Mayor of London, Sarah Ferguson, the Crown Prince of Liechtenstien and Sir Bobby Robson to name but a few.
The group were extremely excited to be invovled in this project and have already provided assistance to the schools.
London Metropolitan University Choir also be appeared. As a highly experienced ensemble, they did not only provide wonderful music on the evening, but also a benchmark for the choirs to aspire to.
London Metropolitan University had provided additional support throughout the project in all areas, which has proved invaluable to the success of this initiative.
