Parkside Community College - Plymouth

The choir is called the “Parkside Singers" and represents students from years 7-11.

Parkside Community College were the last school to join the Opal Choir Project - the choir only formed in November 2007.  After just two rehearsals they performed at the Headteachers' Conference at the Guildhall in Plymouth - where the school was awarded the "Gold Standard" for their Cultural Diversity.

The children were consulted regarding the songs for their repertoire.  After careful consideration, they chose “Up Above My Head” - a traditional Gospel song, and “Run" a cover of the popular song by Snow Patrol.  Both songs were challenging, and broadened the children's musical range.

The children are very proud of being members of the Parkside Singers, and the Opal Choir Project, and are extremely excited about their future performances.

Unfortunately, plans were announced in December 2007 to close Parkside Community College some time in 2008.  Both the school and the Opal Foundation were keen to see the project through, as it gave a positive focus for all students in an uncertain future.
