All Saints Catholic College, Huddersfield
The All Saints Choir was supported and trained by the staff at the school, as well as receiving expert tuition from the Choral Director of the Diocese of Leeds - Chris McEllroy.
The strong musical tradition at the school received a significant boost through the support and sponsorship of the Opal Foundation - the sustained interest of which enabled the choir's formation and regular rehearsals.
We were keen to ensure that all students who had an interest in performing music had an opportunity to join the College Choir, opening rehearsals to any student who had shown some musical talent - not only singers but also musicians. Inspired by the World Choir Olympics ideal, of "participation is the greatest honour" - and to the school's delight, a 45 strong choir was formed, genuinely representing the student population. The choir was not chosen from the best, but from those prepared to work hard to become the best.
A fantastic benefit arose from the project, a relationship had been formed with Huddersfield University, whose undergraduates assisted in the design of the choral uniforms, as well as musical expertise.
