Africa Background

The Opal Africa Project has been set up by the Opal Foundation to make a big difference to the lives of children and their families.

So far, the Opal Foundation has funded two projects worth £30,000 in Dessie, Ethiopia: the refurbishment of classrooms at Karagutu School and the construction of houses for families affected and disabled by leprosy.

The Opal Foundation has set up a partnership working with the African Medical and Reseach Foundation (AMREF) to deliver a 4 year integrated health and social development programme. The new project will improve access to social services: including health, education, water and sanitation services among the communities in South Omo

The programme will positively affect around 200,000 people and will be targeted particularly at improving the lives of children.
